Film in Globalization

During the fall semester I took a globalization in film class. In this class owe analyzed many different global films and had to write our thoughts and opinions on themes in these films. Towards the end of the experience we had to complete a project and a paper, both of which I have linked down below. I learned a lot about global interconnectedness and how we as humans, no matter where we live or come from, experience similar situations and feelings. I think that this class required a lot of collaboration which was one of my favorite aspects. I really liked working with my team members and felt that I got to make new friends during class, easier than I had in other classes. The structure of the class was that I had to go to class and watch films after class and then everyone would capture one moment from the film that they thought was important. During our lecture on Wednesday we would discuss themes and we would each explain why we chose the photo that we did and build on the themes we learned from Monday's lecture. We had quite a few special guests as well. We had a woman from the Cincinnati film development come and talk about how they make movies in Cincinnati and how they work out the details of getting people here. Overall I enjoyed the structure of the class and I feel like I learned a lot of meaningful information about the global industry for film and television. Film in Globalization has become a widely discussed topic in the modern world. The way people connect with one another and learn through movies is a way to explain hard topics and difficult concepts. 'Babel’ was produced by Anonymous Content and directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. This film features three interconnecting stories about people from different parts of the world. This film has many themes of globalization but a few of importance are social/monetary class, global resources, immigration, and global market. These few topics are widely focused on in this film and are key aspects of the film that make it a global film. However, the larger theme at play in the film is disembedding and how it works specifically in this film as the viewer weaves through this complex and regretful story.
