UHP Roundtable

During the beginning of my spring semester I got the opportunity to participate in a student leader roundtable. These roundtables were designed to connect with others on campus, showcase leadership abilities, and to help strengthen communities all over UC using what we learned in the class. I have a weekly log of journals that I have compiled here about what I learned and what I took away!

Week 1:

This week we met everyone in the roundtable and got to interact with one another. I also got the chance to learn about everyone's groups and activities that they participated in outside of the University Honors Program. After that we split off into groups and compiled a list of materials we wanted to learn about and then got together as a larger group and discussed which topics we would be learning about during the semester. I have my first presentation coming up in mid- February and am getting ready to prepare materials for tha. I have a par5tner and I am excited to gain information from her and meet someone new! Overall, I am super excited to see what happens in the roundtable and am hoping that it will make me a stronger leader and increase my ability for collaboration with others.

Week 2:

This week we got to learn about member engagement. There was a presentation and we were asked a series of questions. Most of these questions I related back to my experiences in sorority. I think that this was a good way to see what I should prepare for when I present my topic on the 15th about hosting engaging events. I feel like I do this all the time in sorority and we are always trying to find new ways to keep our members engaged at all times. This was also a nice way to learn about other organizations and how they try to keep their members engaged and understand how other organizations work.

Week 3:

I presented today with my partner about ways to create engaging events. I thought it went pretty well for a presentation. I really liked the way that everyone collaborated with one another. I feel like we got some great insight into planning new events. This also gave me the opportunity to present in front of others because I am not always the most confident when presenting. This was a good way to start getting more comfortable with presenting even in front of a small group.

Week 4:

We presented again today. This presentation felt less put together than the other one but it's okay. I feel like everyone is ready for spring break but we persisted through and it ended up being a good presentation. We discussed leadership transitions today. I feel like I am super qualified to discuss this because I have been through many leadership transitions and am a part of a large organization. I got to talk about my experiences in sorority as I just recently transitioned into my role as a Panhellenic Delegate and have learned so much from my leadership transition.

Week 5:

I was not available to meet this day but I did look over the slides that were sent and they were about Recruitment. I feel like my organization is a bit different because we have this thing called formal recruitment. Basically, it is a large scale week of events to help match people with a sorority. I feel like a lot of the tips that they gave would still be helpful for informal recruitment but I have learned so much about recruitment during my time at Kappa Delta with being on different side of recruitment almost every year.

Week 6:

This was basically just a wrap up of all that we had learned during the year. I feel like the information that was given was prevalent and useful for creating and fostering a more successful community at UC and I was super happy to be a part of this roundtable. I do not know how much this required me to grow but I feel like this whole semester was about growth and growing which can always be hard. I will definitely be utilizing these skills while I am abroad and when dealing with my organization. It was also nice to help other people become better leaders in their organizations and to grow as well. Overall, this was a super rewarding experience which I am grateful for.
